Man arrested after shooting leaves person seriously injured on University Drive

Huntsville Police arrested a Madison man after a shooting on University Drive.

Officers responded to the 3100 block of University Drive on Tuesday, March 24, after reports of a shooting in progress. They found a victim with serious injuries who was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Detectives with the police department's Violent Crimes Unit began working to identify who was responsible for the shooting.

Through their investigation, detectives identified Ijai Darrnell Hall, 25, of Madison, as a person of interest and started looking for him.

Working with the police department's Anti-Crime Team, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives and the FBI North Alabama Violent Crimes Task Force, detectives learned Hall was at a home in the 12000 block of Chicamauga Trail. After confirming he was there, the police department's SWAT Team served a search warrant.

Police say Hall walked out of the home and was arrested without incident. He's charged with first-degree aggravated assault with a gun.

鈥淭his case highlights the strength of coordination across our units and federal partners,鈥 said Huntsville Police Chief Kirk Giles. 鈥淔rom the initial response to the arrest, our teams worked quickly and methodically to identify the suspect and take him into custody safely. That level of collaboration is critical to holding violent offenders accountable and protecting our community.鈥

The case will be presented to the Madison County District Attorney鈥檚 Office.
