Limestone County eyes feasibility study for jail expansion

The Limestone County Jail is currently expanding by about 50 beds, but leaders see this as a short-term solution.

Limestone County is considering a study to address its growing population and the potential need for more jail space.

On Monday, county leaders attended a special meeting to discuss a jail feasibility study. This comes as the Limestone County Jail is completing a cell block expansion that will add about 50 beds.

"We're trying to plan for a 20-year growth plan here," said Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly. "What we're doing is we're getting a feasibility study together to figure out if it's better for us to add on or build a new facility."

Daly emphasized the importance of planning for the future to avoid being "stretched or stressed."

The study aims to evaluate the jail's current capacity and future demands to determine if the existing facility can accommodate the county's rapid growth.
