Capital murder suspect extradited to DeKalb County months after crime

A man suspected of killing Marcus Adam Battles in April 2025 has been extradited to DeKalb County.

DeKalb County Jail records show 23-year-old Christopher Brayden Jones was booked on Wednesday.

Jones had been in custody at the Gordon County Sheriff's Office in Georgia on unrelated charges and was extradited to Alabama once those charges were addressed.

His capital murder arrest came after DeKalb County 911 received a call in the 3000 block of US Highway 117 regarding a vehicle that had struck a residence there on April 10, 2025. The caller also reported a male inside the vehicle had been shot.

When first responders arrived, they rendered aid to the victim, identified as Battles, of Mentone. The sheriff's office says Battles passed away on the scene as a result of his injuries.

The warrant for Jones' arrest came after a 21-day investigation, which was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
